Zeita Scott Ceramics

Usable objects have always fascinated me. Their very nature - their ‘usability’ - gives us a licence to touch them. We do not need permission. If we see a functional object we like, we reach out. The boundary between the object and the person is blurred.

Recently,
the palette I use has become softer, strongly influenced by coastal horizons, the sea and Japanese domestic containers. With these calm, warmer colours and forms, which reflect the softness of the material, I make objects that get involved in their homes and bring a sense of calm to the people who use them. After all the everyday is not necessarily ordinary.’

Zeita
Scott is a potter from Northern Ireland who now lives and works in Buckinghamshire. She studied ceramics at the University of Ulster in Belfast, in rural Japan, and then at the Royal College of Art. Over the years Zeita has worked with many different clays, slips and glazes including a large body of work consisting of brightly coloured slips and black earthenware (see archive).

Since 2019, when she set up her current studio
, she has been using porcelain, combining throwing, hand building techniques and mixed media.

Each piece is handmade in porcelain (or other clay) by
Zeita in her home studio. As with any handmade object there may be slight variations in colour, size and finish. Although the porcelain pieces can be put in the dishwasher, hand-washing is preferable as regular dishwasher use may affect the surface over time.
