The Joy of Giving
Do you love giving gifts as much as receiving them?
I know I do. And there’s a good reason for this. Neurologists suggest that our brains are actually wired to derive pleasure from giving. Seeing that smile on someone’s face as they unwrap your carefully thought out gift can give you a big psychological lift. Endorphins are released into your brain which can produce the same euphoric feelings of pleasure and joy we experience after a tough workout or when we’re falling in love - surely in that case we should be giving presents all the time?! Engaging in generosity is scientifically proven to make us happier!*
Gift giving is a fundamental part of human life. A thoughtful and affectionate tradition that originated thousands of years ago when cavemen would offer simple items to prove their ability to provide for a family – teeth and stones being favourites! These days there are so many reasons to gift a loved one a present. It’s not just about birthdays and Christmas. New babies, homes and jobs, weddings, engagements and anniversaries are all good reasons to show some love. And just because! How lovely does it feel to receive a totally unexpected present? – it can completely make your day. Life is short and unpredictable so why not make someone smile and brighten up their day with a little gift. A random act of kindness.
And what about the gift itself? It feels so much nicer to give someone something that you know they’ll really love. That excitement when you hand it over and watch their reaction as they open it is unbeatable. How many times though have you had to make a last minute dash to the shops and ended up buying a present that you're not very proud of? Or you’ve headed to Amazon when you're in a rush and short of inspiration and ended up overpaying for something boring and quite ordinary. We’ve all been there.
We’re here to give you some gift inspiration so you can choose that perfect present. One that is thoughtful, specific and unique. At Hope and Story we have beautiful range of British made products that are of the highest quality - expertly made gifts that are made to last. We’re sure you’ll be able to find something that will really enhance that euphoric feeling you get when giving!
