Summer - Bring it on!

Summer - Bring it on!

Woo-hoo, it's officially summer..

Love Island is a few weeks in, Glastonbury starts tomorrow and Wimbledon begins next week. We’re there. Today marks the summer solstice – but let’s not think about the fact that the days are now getting shorter and just focus on the fact they’re getting warmer.

Reading in the garden, picnics in the park and hours spent in beer gardens. We have it all to come. Aside from giving us the occasional bout of hay fever, some sneaky wasps and lots of overpriced strawberries, Britain has a lot to offer when it comes to summer. Here are a few of our favourite things...

Beach day essentials

With a beautiful coastline, the UK has some stunning beaches. Golden sand, brightly-coloured beach huts, pine forests, and sand dunes make the beach the best place to be on a hot day. Eating Mr Whippy's, catching crabs and building sandcastles all feature in some of our most cherished childhood memories of seaside holidays. The unmistakeable sound of seagulls, waves, laughter and ice cream vans. The smell of sun cream, fish and chips and BBQs. Warm sand, freezing sea and sandy sandwiches. All vital components of beach days in Britain.

This T-shirt from Boy Wonder represents a proper seaside treat. Covered with vinegar and wrapped in newspaper there's nothing more British than fish and chips by the sea.

Outdoor dining

We love a good reason to eat outside when the sun is shining. A BBQ is a must when the weekend is a scorcher, with burgers, corn on the cob and summery salads. Spontaneous picnics in the park among the daisies, dandelions and buttercups with scotch eggs, quiche, cheese and fizz. Garden parties with cocktails, canapés, scones and strawberries. We definitely do enjoy a bit of alfresco dining.

Enjoy entertaining? Do it in style! This simple yet functional wrap apron from Seed Home Designs is handcrafted in Cornwall and features a butterfly design on the front pocket and a useful loop at the back to hang a tea towel.

This lovely Gin Garnish Botanical Serving Tray from Sarah Leask is absolutely perfect for serving drinks and snacks to your guests.

A lovely drop of some award winning English sparkling wine from Blackdown Ridge Vineyard. Refreshing and light, with deliciously rounded fruit flavours.

Drinking in the daytime

In the height of summer drinking during the day somehow becomes perfectly acceptable. There is nothing more British than a glass of Pimms on a hot day, loaded with strawberries and mint. You can have a cold pint of fruit cider, a G&T or a chilled glass of rosé with lunch without feeling guilty, because the sun is shining!

With summer comes the adding of fruit to booze! Forget a couple of raspberries and jazz up your Prosecco with this Bramble liqueur from Wild Thyme Spirits from . Or just enjoy neat, over ice.

Summer time brings with it a lot more reasons to go out, and often the need for some new wardrobe additions. We love this Vintage Rose skirt from Jackie Maguire. Going out out? Pair it with their co-ordinating Vintage Rose top. Or just style with a white T-shirt for a more casual look.

Out for the day? This tote bag from Joana Fulana is perfect to hold everything you need for a day in the sun. It is made from environmentally conscious canvas and emblazoned with a unique print.
