Here Comes The Sun

Well spring has well and truly sprung...
We’ve been blessed with a glorious week of sunshine and now the clocks have changed and the evenings are getting longer - hooray! Easter is around the corner and before we know it we’ll be slapping on the sun cream and soaking up the summer.
Don’t you just love the vibrant colours and fresh scents that British spring time brings? There is something unmistakable about it. Flowers bloom, wildlife awakens and there is a sense of positivity in the air. After enduring the cold and grey months of winter we are rewarded with blossoming trees and bursts of brightness and colour with daffodils and tulips popping up all over the place. Bees leap into action, frogs spawn and butterflies flutter around us. It always feels like a renewed and hopeful time.
Bring spring into your home with this striking print from Sarah Leask.
You can open your windows, hear the birdsong and feel that fresh spring air circulating in your house as winter starts to become a distant memory. We start to think about picnics, BBQs, pub gardens and beach days that the warmer weather brings. The sun is getting stronger, the days are getting longer and the temperature is rising – there’s lots to get excited about!
The risk of frost has passed and now is a good time to get planting. If gardening is your thing then this tote bag from Annie and Alex might be just for you.
Now is the time to air out the winter and get your home clean and organised. Nothing beats the feeling of cleanliness and accomplishment that comes from a good spring clean. This tradition of freshening up our homes is age old. In a 2000 exhibit on the history of house cleaning the Smithsonian included this diary entry from a housewife in 1864; ‘Swept and dusted sitting room and kitchen 350 times. Filled lamps 362 times. Swept and dusted chamber and stairs 40 times’* Now you might not want to be quite this thorough but even if it’s just a quick spruce up we’ve got you covered. And you can do it all with a clear conscience. Mix Clean Green are a great brand that produce sustainable cleaning products with the planet at their heart.

It's no secret that fresh air brings tons of health benefits with it, but it also energises and inspires us. On a beautiful spring day everything in Britain looks so quaint with a back drop of blue sky, cherry blossom and daffodils. So (once you’ve cleaned your house) get outside, take a deep breath and soak it all in. Aaah.
A true British spring also brings with it a range of temperatures. One minute you are taking off layers and the next they’re going back on again. Charles Dickens sums it up with this quote from Great Expectations; ‘it was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold, when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade’. It’s definitely a time when we don’t always get our clothing choices quite right. You can be fooled by the bright sunshine and end up shivering to the core. If you need some inspiration we’ve got a great spring womenswear collection here.
We also have some gorgeous accessories like this tote bag from Joana Fulana
