Charity Awareness & Good Causes

Charity Awareness & Good Causes

Giving back to our communities, charities, and the world around us at large is fundamental to everyone’s well-being. If we each give back only a little of what we have received, we better ourselves and what’s around us. Some of the many benefits of giving back are that we develop a sense of purpose, we learn more about our community, we learn about our blessings and realise what luck we each have. Giving back is something that is important to many people, businesses, and organisations; personally, and generally. By immersing yourself in a community and surrounding yourself with people who are dedicated to bettering the world, you can learn so much about how the world works. You gain a unique sense of purpose by serving those around you, one which often manifests in other areas of your life.

Many of our partners on Hope and Story are associated with charity’s and give back a percentage of their earning to help others. Read below to see an insight of what our partners are doing to give back and help others!

Livvy B - Mind

Livvy B works alongside Mind to support teenagers with their mental health. All of their designs are created by teenagers who have or are experiencing challenging times in their lives, Livvy B then donate 10% of all profits to the charity to help raise money for Mind. For example, the Red Lip Shorts were designed by Rosie who is 15 years old.

Not only do they work with teenagers on their designs, but they also try their best to employ them within the business where possible. If there is a certain industry they are trying to pursue, Livvy B will do their best to give them the experience in the areas they want to pursue. Some of these have included writing, sales, photography, styling, customer service and modelling.

Livvy B put the young people of our country first to ensure they are given the best opportunities around. The ethics of the business are about finding the best for the people of our future and making sure that they are supported, recognised, and given the resources they need in order to create a future for themselves.

Gung Ho - Environmental Issues

10% of Gung Ho’s profits are donated to a selected charity that works with the issue represented in the collection, so you can not only look good, but do good too. So far, they’ve donated to Friends of the Earth, SeedShare (which is now closed), Made in Hackney, Surfers Against Sewage and The Worldwide Tribe.

Each year Gung Ho choose a different societal or environmental issue that needs attention. From plastic Oceans to Climate change, these issues are explored within the print design and embroidery of Gung Ho’s Garments. This way, when your wearing Gung Ho’s pieces and somebody compliments you, you have a little more to say other than ‘thanks’. Every Gung Ho piece is a talking point and comes with a minizine that explains the issue that you are wearing. It also tells you why it is important and what you can do to help. Gung Ho’s final mission is to get people talking about these societal or environmental issues in order to inspire change. So far, they have campaigned for: Displacement, Climate Change, Food for thought, Plastic oceans and Precious Insects.

Calm Cocoa – Mindfulness Matters

Calm Cocoa support the good cause of Mindfulness Matters. Mindfulness is at the very heart of Calm Cocoa. The founder Meredith is a meditation teacher and has experienced many benefits from her own meditation practice. More mindful eating is also a beautiful habit to form when it comes to enjoying any food or drink, but particularly something as delicious as good chocolate. Although mindfulness sometimes seems to have become something of a buzz word in recent years, it’s not a new concept. Contemplation, stillness and presence are at the heart of most major religions, all deep creative work and many alternative and not so alternative therapies.

Mindfulness is both a practice and an outcome that has to be practised overtime. Meredith says mindfulness is about paying attention to the present moment and bringing a sense of compassionate awareness to what you find there. Mindfulness is all about developing a sense of connection with your senses and with the people and world around you. It’s about understanding that sometimes mindfulness can come easily but sometimes can also be a difficult practice.

Meredith wants Calm Cocoa do help people relax and take a step back in order to connect with your mind and feelings. It’s a moment she wants to create for you to pause and relax while enjoying your Hot Chocolate.

Pugalier of London - Guide Dogs for the Blind

“The last thing I also decided was that I wanted to give back to the community. My grandmother has very bad eyesight as she had macular and she lost a lot of confidence, wouldn’t go out etc but then she was given hope, a life, independence from Guide Dogs for the Blind and so that’s when I decided they were the charity we wanted to support. Although we are a small business, we make donations throughout the year to the charity and as we continue to grow years on year the donations will continue to increase. It’s so important to give back to the community and that’s what we/I wanted to do.” – says Sophie, the Founder of Pugalier of London.
